Opening Day!

Today was absoloutley amazing. That's no lie.
Today we officially opened the doors to the
Flying Fibers store. Everyone felt anxious and
excited. It was great! Ellen arrived soon after and
so the day began! The customers began to arrive!
It was so nice to see lots of friends come out and support our venture. Also to see new people that just saw the word yarn on the sign outside and decided to look around.

There was also a little time to give a quick knitting lesson to the rest of the family, just to inform them incase someone asked a question about knitting. The shop seemed to be constantly full no matter what.

Also, a person (Rita) who had taken the felting class that the PA Guild of Craftsmen organized stopped by and showed us her finished hat, which she adorned with a gorgeous feather. The day was beyond great, here are a few more pictures below.

1 Day! and Happy Thanksgiving

Yes, it's true! Tomorrow at 6 A.M. the shop will officially open! My family is so grateful to all the people who have helped out in this daring venture. Ellen, Tina, Linda, Anna, Audrey, Bev, Tim and Chuck. They have helped make the shop beautiful and pleasant.
Flying Fibers is thankful for the amazing people that surround us in our lives. We're also thankful for wool (of course!). I can't wait for all of you to see the shop!

Happy Thanksgiving!

2 days!

Wow, 2 days. It seems like we just started painting, yet the shop is colourful and bright with yarns, roving, and knitting supplies. I can't wait for everyone to see it, excitement keeps building up every passing day!
Today will be the day that we price and take more inventory. Then it's our Wednesday Nights Open Studio with our close friends. This will be open to everyone once the shop officially opens, and will be on every Wednesday night starting in the evening. It's just a time where we all gather and work on our current projects, eat, and talk. It is a very warming social event and you meet so many new people with different fiber arts experience.
Well, I'm off then. And don't forget, 2 DAYS! Join us Black Friday for the opening.

some updates

Hello everyone!
Just thought I would update. Wow, let's see, the countdown to the shop...
7 DAYS UNTIL THE SHOP OPENS! I can't wait! This is the most exciting venture my family has taken!
So, as a little treat. Here are pictures of my sheep. (besides TJ, we still can't get a good picture of him)

Kat (spring lamb), Guinevere (yearling), and Jemma (2 yr.) our North American Wensleydales.

Sir Winston Wensleydale. He's as old as KitKat, yet bigger than Guinevere and Jemma. He's going to be HUGE, when he's full-grown

This is Noel. She's a natural coloured ewe, about to turn 2 years. She's our first sheep and has amazing spinning fleece.

Beginning Anew

I haven't updated this blog in ages. So I thought to myself, "why don't I just delete all the previous posts and start anew."
So that's what I did.
So for the introduction, once again...
Flying Fibers is a business started back in 2003. It began with felted hats, bags and other creations. As the love of fiber and sheep grew, so did the business. Flying Fibers began importing rare breed fiber from the UK. Especially the Wensleydale, which is the finest luster longwool sheep of England. Now selling a wide range of Wensleydale fiber (roving, yarns, and some fleece) the business has established and continues to focus on improving offerings for it's costumers, while conserving rare breed animals.
Between Fiber Festivals, Flying Fibers has all of their products available year round. Simply call us at (717) 396-8648.

Currently Flying Fibers retails; Wensleydale, Balwen, Manx Loghtan, Ryeland, Jacob, Cotswold, Grayfaced Dartmoor, Hebridean, Herdwick, Blue Faced Leicester, Shetland, Castle Milk Moorit, and Dorset yarns. Wensleydale, Blue Faced Leicester, Jacob, Shetland, and Manx Loghtan roving. Knitting patterns for Wensleydale yarn. Also, Schacht spinning wheels, Louet spinning wheels and Gaywool dyes.

Some important news as well...
On Black Friday, Flying Fibers will be opening a brand new bricks-and-mortar business at 329 Main Street, Landisville, PA! More information will come as the date grows closer.
